About the Role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Principal Ecologist to join our Advisory business - a vibrant, inclusive community that celebrates our differences and makes a real impact across the UK. As a Principal Ecologist, you will act as a technical team leader, providing advice, guidance, and supervision to technical teams, operational managers, clients, and suppliers. You will manage or influence the actions of technical teams across multiple locations, projects, and accounts within a multidisciplinary environment. Responsibilities include preparing, leading, and checking ecological surveys and documentation to meet quality, cost, and programme criteria; managing project budgets and commercial success; liaising with clients and suppliers at peer level and above; leading bid preparation and work winning activities; working on site as required, including out of hours; and assuming people management responsibilities when required.

Experience
- Full membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management or equivalent
- Chartered Ecologist or Chartered Environmentalist status, or working towards it
- Developed experience and expertise within the ecological field
- Expertise in protected species surveys, including EPS mitigation licence application experience
- Protected species licence holder or working towards this (notable species: bats and dormice)
- Experience in invasive species survey and management
- Comprehensive knowledge of ecological processes and survey methodologies
- Ability to produce technically sound ecological solutions complying with relevant technical standards, wildlife legislation, and client requirements
- Experience in applying ecological management theory and principles
- Experience with project-related health, safety, and welfare tasks, including Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
- Good understanding of risk assessment and management, including communication of hazards and risk mitigation on projects
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Biology, Environmental Science, or demonstrable equivalent further learning
