About the Role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Principal Ecologist to join our Advisory business - a vibrant, inclusive community that celebrates our differences and makes a real impact across the UK. As a Principal Ecologist, you will act as a technical team leader, providing advice, guidance, and supervision to technical teams, operational managers, clients, and suppliers. You will manage or influence the actions of technical teams regardless of office location, project, or account, including within multidisciplinary environments. You may also undertake the people manager role when required by the business.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the preparation and checking of surveys and documentation to ensure quality, cost, and programme criteria are met
- Managing the commercial success of projects within your portfolio, including budget control and cost management
- Liaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level and above, including presenting proposals
- Leading and contributing to bid preparation and work winning activities, with accountability to the bid director
- Working on site as required, including out of hours and temporary full-time roles
- Assuming people management responsibilities when required

Experience
- Full membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management or equivalent
- Chartered Ecologist or Chartered Environmentalist status or working towards it
- Developed expertise in ecological fieldwork, including protected species surveys
- Experience with EPS Mitigation licence applications and holding or working towards protected species licences (notably bats and dormice)
- Experience in invasive species survey and management
- Comprehensive knowledge of ecological processes and survey methodologies
- Ability to produce technically sound ecological solutions compliant with relevant standards, legislation, and client requirements
- Experience applying ecological management theory and principles
- Experience with health, safety, and welfare project-related tasks, including Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
- Good understanding of risk assessment and hazard management on projects
About You
Proactive, technically skilled, and able to lead and influence multidisciplinary teams. Strong communicator capable of liaising with clients and suppliers at senior levels. Motivated to contribute to business growth through bid preparation and client engagement. Flexible and willing to work on site as required, including out of hours.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Biology, Environmental Science, or demonstrable equivalent further learning.
