About the Role
Join AECOM as a Principal Environmental Consultant working on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) projects across the UK and Ireland. You will manage environmental inputs to large-scale infrastructure development projects including energy generation (carbon capture and storage, hydrogen, renewables), energy distribution and transmission, strategic rail projects, highway improvements, regeneration schemes, and developments across ecommerce, minerals and waste, water, defence, aviation, commercial, residential, and industrial sectors. You will be involved in all project stages from early strategy and site identification through to construction and operation. Your responsibilities will include managing EIA screening and scoping reports, Environmental Statements, and supporting documents, ensuring the highest quality standards and compliance with quality management procedures. You will collaborate with integrated design teams to identify environmental constraints, mitigation solutions, and opportunities to enhance project outcomes. The role involves client relationship management, internal team coordination, business development, and promoting AECOM’s environmental services. This position offers the chance to work within a national team of over 165 EIA specialists and contribute to projects that support the UK’s net zero commitments and sustainable infrastructure development.
Experience
Proven experience managing and coordinating multidisciplinary environmental inputs to infrastructure development projects. Strong knowledge of EIA processes, environmental assessment methods, planning legislation, and consenting/licensing regimes. Experience with Development Consent Orders (DCO) and/or Transport and Works Act Orders (TWAO) is advantageous. Demonstrated consultancy experience with strong project management skills including programming, resourcing, and budget management. Ability to coordinate specialist technical inputs effectively.

Qualifications
Degree in a relevant environmental discipline, preferably at Masters level. Appropriate professional membership is required. Chartered Environmentalist status and experience in mentoring or line management would be advantageous.
