About the Role
Join AECOM as a Principal Environmental Consultant working on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) projects across the UK and Ireland. You will manage environmental inputs to large-scale infrastructure development projects that support the UK’s net zero commitments and transform infrastructure. Projects include energy generation (carbon capture, hydrogen, renewables), energy distribution and transmission, carbon capture pipelines, strategic rail, highway improvements, regeneration, and developments across ecommerce, minerals, waste, water, defence, aviation, commercial, residential, and industrial sectors.
Your responsibilities will include managing environmental inputs to EIA screening and scoping reports, Environmental Statements, and supporting documents throughout all project stages from early strategy and feasibility to construction and operation. You will work across multiple consenting regimes such as DCO, TCPA, TWA, and hybrid Bills.
Key duties involve ensuring the highest quality of deliverables, applying strong project management skills to manage resources and budgets, collaborating with integrated design teams to identify environmental constraints and mitigation solutions, managing client relationships and internal teams, and leading business development opportunities. You will be part of a large, expert Environmental Impact team and contribute to AECOM’s commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) priorities.
Experience
Proven experience managing and coordinating multidisciplinary environmental inputs to infrastructure development projects. Strong knowledge of EIA, environmental assessment methods, planning legislation, and relevant consenting and licensing regimes. Experience with Development Consent Orders (DCO) and/or Transport and Works Act Orders (TWAO) is advantageous.
Consultancy and project management experience delivering consultancy services, including programming, resourcing, and budget management. Ability to coordinate specialist technical inputs effectively.
About you
Confident communicator with excellent verbal, report writing, and technical review skills. Collaborative team player able to build strong working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. Passionate about improving environmental performance and delivering sustainable infrastructure solutions.
Willingness to travel and work flexibly across projects and stakeholder groups.
Qualifications
Degree in a relevant environmental discipline, preferably at Masters level, with appropriate professional membership. Chartered Environmentalist status and an interest in mentoring and line management are advantageous.
