About the Role
Protect lives and landscapes with AECOM by delivering expert flood risk solutions that safeguard communities and infrastructure. Join our Water team as a Principal Flood Modeller and play a key role in shaping the future of the Water Industry. You will work on high-profile, influential projects across the UK and beyond, based at one of the UK’s most ambitious northern engineering hubs.
In this senior technical role, you will guide junior staff and develop our flood risk modelling offerings for local authorities, water companies, and both private and public sector clients. Your responsibilities will include developing and checking hydraulic models using software such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, Mike 11, Mike 21, HEC-RAS, and ICM to support Flood Alleviation Schemes, Flood Risk Assessments, and reservoir flood studies. You will also develop water quality models using industry-standard software like MIKE, Delft3D, SIMCAT, and ICM.
You will conceptualise and scope modelling approaches, undertake and check hydrological assessments using Flood Estimation Handbook, ReFH2, and WINFAP, lead tenders from innovative projects to multimillion-pound frameworks, mentor team members, build client relationships, and stay current with legislation and guidelines affecting flood risk services. Working closely with engineers and technical specialists, you will help deliver a wide range of fluvial, coastal, surface water, and drainage flood risk management projects.
At AECOM, you will thrive in an inclusive, forward-thinking environment with access to career development, technical networks, flexible hybrid working, and personalised benefits designed to support your well-being and lifestyle. Join us and contribute to projects that uplift communities and create lasting legacies.
