About the Role
Join AECOM's growing Energy team as a Principal Solar Electrical Engineer, contributing to a diverse portfolio of solar projects spanning utility-scale and distributed generation. You will deliver feasibility, design, and technical advisory services for commercial-scale rooftop, carport, floating, and ground-mounted solar PV projects, including some of the UK's largest Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) and projects across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). Many projects also incorporate battery energy storage systems. This role offers the opportunity to design innovative solar energy solutions that maximise efficiency and minimise environmental impact, supporting clients to achieve their clean energy goals. You will engage in technical site surveys, client meetings, and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality outcomes. Your expertise will help shape the future of renewable energy while working within a leading global consultancy committed to delivering a better world.
Experience
- Proven experience in the design, specification, and/or construction of solar PV projects within consultancy, EPC contractor, or developer environments.
- Strong understanding of solar PV systems and associated electrical infrastructure.
- Experience leading project teams, mentoring junior engineers, and managing client relationships.
- Ability to prepare high-quality technical reports, specifications, and client-facing documentation.
- Knowledge of applicable industry standards, regulations, and best practices relating to solar PV installations.
- Experience reviewing and approving engineering designs and deliverables.
About you
- Highly motivated and capable of working independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong attention to detail with a diligent and proactive approach to project delivery.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites, including remote locations.
Qualifications
- Degree or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards chartership through a relevant professional institution.
