About the Role
Join AECOM’s Aquatic Ecology Team as a Senior Aquatic Ecologist and play a key role in shaping the future of environmental projects across the UK. You will provide technical expertise, undertake surveys, and contribute to the growth and development of a friendly, motivated, and multi-disciplinary team. Your work will support a diverse portfolio of projects including those for the Environment Agency, Natural England, water companies, renewable energy initiatives, and nationally significant infrastructure projects. Typical projects include baseline data collection and monitoring, fish passage and weir removal, fish rescue and translocation, water quality monitoring, pollution response surveys, and drought monitoring.
Your responsibilities will include providing aquatic ecology input into EcIA, planning, mitigation, and multi-disciplinary projects; authoring technical reports; data analysis and processing; producing EcIA documents in line with CIEEM guidelines; managing aquatic ecology input including survey design and costing; leading a team of aquatic ecologists across AECOM’s nationwide offices and laboratories; and supporting the wider environmental business.

Experience
- Proven experience in aquatic ecology, including industry-standard monitoring techniques and analyses.
- Experience with EcIA/EIA processes from baseline data collection to impact assessment and mitigation design.
- Familiarity with Water Framework Directive (WFD) compliance assessment and related legislation.
- Experience working on multi-disciplinary projects and authoring technical reports.

Qualifications
- Relevant degree or equivalent experience in aquatic ecology or related field.
