About the Role
Are you ready to lead a team of talented engineers and shape the future of energy infrastructure? Join AECOM’s UK Transmission and Distribution (T&D) business as a Senior Electrical Engineer focused on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). You will work on high voltage design projects for transmission and distribution networks, primarily between 11kV and 400kV, with a strong emphasis on renewables and energy storage, grid connections, and private networks.
Your projects will include feasibility studies, optioneering, Front End Engineering Design (FEED), detailed design, and design assurance for renewable generation such as pumped storage hydro, PV, wind, and collocated BESS. You will collaborate with renewable energy developers across the UK and Ireland, and occasionally on global projects.
Responsibilities include designing grid connections, control and metering systems for energy storage, supporting bidding and project management activities, and contributing to quality assurance. Experience
- Previous consultancy, contractor, equipment manufacturer, or electrical utility experience in the energy sector
- Experience in FEED design, detailed design, or owner’s engineer roles
- Strong understanding of renewable generation and energy storage technologies, particularly battery storage of various types and chemistries
- Proven experience designing HV grid connections, metering, and control systems for battery storage installations, including BESS collocated with renewable generation
- Knowledge of grid connection requirements such as G59 and G99
- Good understanding of electrical plant items and control systems including transformers, cables, circuit breakers, HV Protection & Control

Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Experience with multi-discipline engineering projects
- Experience in design and site construction review is advantageous
- Knowledge of grid connection considerations beyond energy storage is beneficial
