About the Role
Protect lives and landscapes with AECOM by delivering expert flood risk solutions that safeguard communities and infrastructure. Join our dynamic and rapidly growing Water Business Line as a Senior Flood Modeller, working at the heart of one of the UK’s most ambitious northern engineering hubs. You will play a senior technical role, guiding junior staff and developing our flood risk modelling services for local authorities, water companies, and public and private sector clients.
In this role, you will develop and check hydraulic models using industry-standard software such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, Mike 11, Mike 21, HEC-RAS, and ICM to support Flood Alleviation Schemes, Flood Risk Assessments, and reservoir flood studies. You will also develop water quality models (physico-chemical, biological, bacterial, or chemical) using software like MIKE, Delft3D, SIMCAT, and ICM.
Your responsibilities will include conceptualising and scoping modelling approaches, undertaking hydrological assessments using tools such as Flood Estimation Handbook, ReFH2, and WINFAP, leading tenders from innovative projects to multimillion-pound frameworks, mentoring team members, and building strong client relationships. You will keep up-to-date with legislation and guidelines affecting flood risk services and use AECOM’s project management systems to deliver high-quality outputs within agreed programmes and budgets.
Join a collaborative, inclusive environment where your contributions are valued. Benefit from career development opportunities, technical practice networks, AECOM University, volunteering days, and a flexible hybrid working model designed to support your work-life balance. We welcome flexible and part-time working arrangements to suit your lifestyle.
Experience
Significant experience in hydraulic and water quality modelling software such as Mike, ICM, SIMCAT, Flood Modeller, and/or TUFLOW. Demonstrable knowledge of Environment Agency requirements for flood risk assessments. Experience in hydrological assessments using Flood Estimation Handbook, ReFH2, and WINFAP. Practical knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, Anaconda, or Ruby is advantageous.
About you
Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously and as part of a dynamic, deadline-driven team. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. A commitment to continuous learning and professional development. Enthusiastic about innovation and delivering impactful water industry projects.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or a relevant discipline. Obtained or near to obtaining a professional qualification with CIWEM or similar professional body. Basic understanding of physico-chemical water quality and associated regulatory standards for fresh waters.
