About the Role
Protect lives and landscapes with AECOM by delivering expert flood risk solutions that safeguard communities and infrastructure. Join our dynamic and rapidly growing Water Business Line as a Senior Flood Modeller, working at the heart of one of the UK’s most ambitious northern engineering hubs. In this role, you will be a senior technical resource guiding junior staff and developing our flood risk modelling services for local authorities, water companies, and both private and public sector clients.
You will play a key role in delivering high-quality flood modelling and hydrology projects across the UK and beyond. Your responsibilities will include developing and checking hydraulic models using software such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, Mike 11, Mike 21, HEC-RAS, and ICM to support Flood Alleviation Schemes, Flood Risk Assessments, and reservoir flood studies. You will also develop water quality models using industry-standard software like MIKE, Delft3D, SIMCAT, and ICM.
Additional duties include conceptualising and scoping modelling approaches, undertaking hydrological assessments using Flood Estimation Handbook, ReFH2, and WINFAP, leading tenders from innovative projects to multimillion-pound frameworks, mentoring team members, building client relationships, and staying current with legislation and guidelines affecting flood risk services. You will collaborate closely with engineers and technical specialists to deliver fluvial, coastal, surface water, and drainage flood risk management projects.
At AECOM, you will thrive in an inclusive, forward-thinking environment with access to career development, technical networks, volunteering days, and a flexible hybrid working model to support your work-life balance. We welcome flexible and part-time working arrangements to suit your lifestyle.
Experience
Significant experience in hydraulic and water quality modelling software such as Mike, ICM, SIMCAT, Flood Modeller, and/or TUFLOW. Demonstrable knowledge of Environment Agency requirements for flood risk assessments. Experience in conceptualising modelling approaches and undertaking hydrological assessments using Flood Estimation Handbook, ReFH2, and WINFAP. Practical knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, Anaconda, or Ruby is advantageous.
About you
Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously and as part of a dynamic, deadline-driven team. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Committed to professional development and keen to mentor junior staff. Enthusiastic about innovation and delivering impactful flood risk solutions that benefit communities.
