About the Role

As a Principal Drainage & SuDS Engineer within our multidisciplinary Networks & Drainage Solutions (N&DS) team, you will work on a wide range of challenging projects from early-stage strategy and Masterplanning to detailed design. Collaborate with engineers, modellers, and GIS specialists to deliver innovative solutions integrating rainfall, runoff, and blue-green infrastructure into the built environment.

Your responsibilities will include leading and supporting the technical delivery of drainage, SuDS, and Nature-based Solutions (NbS) projects for water companies, local authorities, infrastructure operators, and developers. You will oversee concept development and detailed designs, produce GIS and CAD analysis and mapping, prepare technical reports and quality assured deliverables, and maintain awareness of evolving legislation and best practices. You will also manage projects or work packages to ensure delivery on time, cost, and quality, support proposal preparation, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, engage with clients and stakeholders, identify business development opportunities, and mentor junior colleagues to foster a strong technical culture.
Experience
Relevant industry experience in drainage, SuDS, NbS or related fields. Proven ability to lead technical delivery and manage projects. Experience with GIS tools (e.g. ArcGIS, MapInfo), CAD software (e.g. Civil 3D), and hydraulic modelling tools (e.g. InfoDrainage, Causeway Flow) is desirable. Experience collaborating within multidisciplinary teams and strong commercial awareness are advantageous.

Qualifications
Degree in Engineering, Geography, GIS, Environmental Science or a related discipline (HNC/HND with relevant experience also considered). Working towards or holding a professional qualification such as C.WEM, CEng, IEng or equivalent is desirable. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Understanding of planning, environmental legislation, ecology, landscape architecture or environmental economics is a plus.
