About the Role
Join AECOM’s established Sustainability & Decarbonisation Advisory team within the Building Engineering Business Line, a recognised leader in sustainable development. As a Senior Sustainability Consultant, you will play a key role in delivering sustainability and carbon services to major public and private sector clients, helping them design and implement low-carbon, resilient, and sustainable estates. Your work will span diverse sectors including healthcare, education, commercial, and specifically UK Defence & National Security. You will support clients in developing sustainability and decarbonisation strategies, delivering whole life carbon reduction plans aligned with frameworks such as Greater London Authority, LETI & RIBA, RICS, and BREEAM. You will liaise directly with clients and design teams to embed sustainability from early design stages through to construction, deliver assessment certification schemes including BREEAM and DREAM, and contribute to sustainability appraisals such as SAW and SEEAM. Additional responsibilities include supporting project management, assisting with bid submissions, and mentoring junior staff to enhance team capability. This role offers the opportunity to work on impactful projects that contribute to a sustainable future while being part of a global firm committed to delivering a better world.

Requirements

Experience
Proven experience in building design and construction processes with a strong focus on sustainability. Skilled in undertaking Whole Life Carbon Assessments (WLCAs) using OneClick LCA and delivering assessment certification schemes, particularly BREEAM and DREAM. Experience with sustainability appraisals and familiarity with LEED and WELL is advantageous. Demonstrated ability to interpret numerical and analytical data to develop practical sustainability solutions. Experience working on sustainable buildings, low-carbon design, and environmental performance projects. Willingness to work on Defence and National Security projects.

About you
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information clearly. High attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem solving. Flexible and adaptable, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to mentor and support junior staff. Committed to sustainability and environmental best practices.

Qualifications
Good knowledge of current and emerging policies and best practice guidance on sustainability and decarbonisation. Ability to obtain or hold active UK Security Clearance (SC) is essential due to the nature of the work. Ideally, candidates will have single UK nationality to facilitate clearance. A commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is expected.
