About the Role
Costain has secured extensive work across the water sector to support the AMP 8 investment cycle. We have been appointed by Northumbrian Water to the Living Water Enterprise to help shape and deliver its strategic infrastructure upgrade programme, with contracts valued up to approximately £670m over the next 15 years. The Site Engineer will support the delivery of projects allocated to Costain, ranging in value from £1m to £10m in this initial phase. These projects include both STW upgrades and Storm Overflow works.
You will work across the project lifecycle from concept, Early Contractor Involvement (ECI), delivery, and through to handover. This role involves close collaboration with design and delivery teams, site operational teams, and supply chain partners across one or multiple sites. You will support the development of construction strategies and programmes, ensuring safe delivery to quality, time, and budget standards.
Responsibilities
- Support and develop site teams
- Support production and implementation of project plans, Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMs), Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and waste management
- Maintain robust and comprehensive site records including diaries and allocation sheets
- Ensure supply chain compliance with the framework management plan
- Fully support our safety culture striving towards Zero Lost Time Injuries (LTI) and RIDDOR incidents
- Maintain a commercial focus with a high level of challenge on project scope and efficient delivery strategies
- Work closely with the Senior Engineer/Agent to ensure sites have competent and skilled resources
- Ensure consistent and reliable reporting of project Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) metrics, progress, cost, and change
- Identify key project risks early and implement mitigation measures where possible
Experience
- Project level experience on contracts over £1m
- Experience working on multidisciplinary projects
- Experience with MEICA interfaces and/or water environment projects is beneficial
- Proven track record of delivering projects or packages of work safely to quality, time, and budget
- Practical knowledge of NEC forms of contract delivery

Qualifications
- HNC, HND, or degree in a relevant civil engineering discipline
- SMSTS qualification
- Relevant CSCS card
- Full UK driving licence
