We are recruiting Trainee Plastic Fabricators for a growing manufacturer based in Romsey. The company produces specialist plastic pipework and equipment used within heating and cooling systems, including major data-centre projects.
Previous plastic fabrication experience is not required. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with practical experience using hand tools who would like to learn specialist fabrication and plastic-welding techniques.
Role Overview
As a Trainee Plastic Fabricator, you will help manufacture plastic pipe assemblies, tanks and vessels to the required specifications.
You will use a range of hand and power tools to measure, cut, shape and assemble plastic components. Full training will be provided in the specialist fabrication and jointing methods used within the business.
The role is practical and physically active, so you should be comfortable working with your hands, following technical instructions and maintaining high standards of accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
Measuring and marking plastic pipes, sheets and other components
Cutting, drilling, bending and shaping plastic materials
Using hand tools and hand-held power tools safely
Assembling plastic pipework, tanks and vessels
Learning specialist plastic-welding and jointing techniques
Reading and following drawings, specifications and work instructions
Creating and using templates and jigs
Inspecting completed work and identifying any faults
Repairing or reworking products when required
Supporting experienced fabricators and other production colleagues
Keeping the working area clean, organised and safe
Following all company health and safety procedures
Working Environment
This is a workshop-based role that may involve:
Manual handling
Working with tools, equipment, solvents and chemicals
Working within confined spaces
Occasional working at height
Wearing the required personal protective equipment
Training Provided
Successful candidates will receive training in specialist thermoplastic fabrication techniques, which may include:
Socket fusion
Butt fusion
Electrofusion
Hot-gas welding
Extrusion welding
Injection welding
Heat shrinking
Solvent jointing
Essential Requirements
Previous experience or confidence using hand tools
Good practical ability and manual dexterity
Able to measure accurately and pay close attention to detail
Able to follow instructions and work methodically
Willingness to learn new technical skills
Reliable, conscientious and able to work well within a team
Comfortable undertaking a practical and physically active role
Able to travel reliably to Romsey for a 7:00am start
Direct experience in plastic fabrication is not required.
Desirable Requirements
Experience using hand-held power tools
Previous experience in manufacturing, construction, engineering, maintenance, assembly or another practical environment
Ability to understand basic technical drawings
GCSEs in Maths and Science or equivalent
Basic Microsoft Office skills
An engineering qualification or apprenticeship
Salary and Working Hours
The trainee rate is £13.00 per hour. The standard working pattern includes 39 basic hours and five scheduled overtime hours paid at an enhanced rate, providing estimated annual earnings of approximately £30,871.
Additional overtime may also be available.
Experienced Plastic Fabricators may be considered for a higher hourly rate, depending on their skills and experience.
Interview Process
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a face-to-face interview in Romsey lasting approximately one hour. A hiring decision will usually be made following the interview.
Salary: Approximately £30,871 per year, including scheduled overtime
Location: Romsey, Hampshire
Hours: Monday to Thursday, 7:00am to 5:00pm, and Friday, 7:00am to 1:00pm
Contract: Full-time, temporary-to-permanent
