About the Role
Join AECOM’s dynamic Nature team as an Associate Director - Ecology and help shape the future of the environment. You will lead ecological inputs on a variety of projects across sectors such as energy, water, renewables, defence, and transport, ranging from large infrastructure developments to smaller local projects. Your role will include planning and delivering ecological assessments, managing projects, and supporting National and International initiatives within the wider AECOM Nature team.

Key responsibilities include leading the production and technical review of ecological assessments such as Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Protected Species Baseline Reports, Ecological Impact Assessments, Habitats Regulations Assessments, and Biodiversity Net Gain Calculations. You will provide technical leadership to deliver pragmatic solutions, engage with clients and stakeholders including planning authorities and statutory bodies, and play a vital role in developing technical capabilities and embedding innovation.

Additionally, you will lead bids and tenders for ecological services and mentor junior staff and peers within a supportive environment that offers internal and external training opportunities alongside a nurturing mentoring and coaching framework.

Requirements

Experience
Demonstrable experience in planning and delivering ecological services on projects in the UK or Ireland. Proven ability to lead ecological inputs and assessments across a range of project types and sectors.

About you
Proactive and passionate about innovation in ecology. Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring and supporting team members. Excellent communication skills to engage effectively with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams. Committed to health and safety standards and fostering an inclusive work environment.

Qualifications
Membership of an appropriate professional institution (e.g., CIEEM) with evidence of working towards Chartership. Excellent field skills in at least one specialist area, including holding relevant protected species licences. A commitment to continuous professional development and technical excellence.
