About the Role
Join AECOM’s multidisciplinary water environment team as a Water Science Graduate and contribute to impactful projects across the UK and Ireland. You will work alongside specialists in hydrogeology, hydrology, hydro-morphology, water quality, and water resource management, supporting clients from public and private sectors including Environment Agency, Local Authorities, Highways England, Natural England, Water Utilities, and more. Our portfolio includes major infrastructure projects such as HS2 and the Thames Tideway Tunnel, where the team leads water environment chapters in Environmental Statements and Water Framework Directive assessments.
This role offers a fantastic opportunity to develop your career by gaining hands-on experience in surface water environments, covering fluvial, estuarine, lacustrine, and marine settings. Your work will involve a broad range of activities including water quality studies, hydrological investigations, geomorphological assessments, environmental compliance, and pollution prevention. You will also support applications for environmental permits and consents.
Projects you may be involved with include catchment-wide river restoration plans, hydrological reviews and water balance studies, design and installation of Nature Based Solutions, fish and eel passage guidance, water science for carbon capture developments, complex water quality monitoring, and nutrient neutrality assessments.
Health, safety, and environmental considerations are integral to all work, and you will be encouraged to take an active role in client engagement and commercial aspects of projects. AECOM supports your professional development through mentoring, a structured graduate development programme, and opportunities for chartership.
Experience
Some experience or academic exposure to surface water environment issues is beneficial. Experience with GIS is required. Ability to work on diverse projects involving hydrology, water quality, hydro-morphology, and environmental compliance is expected.
About you
Strong analytical and numerical skills with excellent report writing and communication abilities. Enthusiastic about environmental science and motivated to develop your career within a specialist consultancy team. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. A full driving licence is desirable due to travel requirements for site surveys involving equipment and limited public transport access.
Qualifications
Degree qualified with an MSc in Geography, Geomorphology, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Hydrochemistry or a related discipline. Commitment to professional development, including potential chartership with relevant institutions such as CIWEM.
