About the Role

As a Commercial Manager within the Environment Business Unit, you will provide leadership and commercial expertise to ensure bid submissions and projects are commercially robust and aligned with business plan performance metrics. Reporting to the Assistant Commercial Director, Environment, you will engage proactively with clients and internal teams to drive continuous improvement in service quality and financial outcomes.

Your role will include managing contract and commercial matters critical to business success, building strong client and supplier relationships, and supporting operational teams. You will provide commercial leadership throughout the project lifecycle, offering governance and strategic advice to bid teams in collaboration with Legal. You will also mentor junior colleagues and deliver commercial training as part of development programs.

Key responsibilities include developing and executing commercial strategies for bids, leading contractual negotiations, supporting pricing and risk analysis, enforcing compliance with Delegations of Authority, and actively promoting safety, quality, and ethical standards. Requirements

Experience
- Proven experience in delivery, legal, commercial or finance roles within the Built Environment or Construction industry.
- Detailed knowledge of construction contract suites including JCT, Government Frameworks, FIDIC, NEC PSC/ECC.
- Experience drafting and negotiating bespoke project agreements.
- Pre-contract procurement and commercial management expertise.
- Strong risk mitigation skills and solution-focused approach.
- Commercial acumen with ability to analyze business data and pricing strategies.
- Experience in dispute avoidance and resolution.
- Ability to lead and influence stakeholders effectively.

About you
- Degree qualified in business, finance, law, engineering or related discipline.
- Postgraduate business qualifications highly advantageous.
- Professional status in project management, engineering, surveying or law (e.g. ACCA, ACMA, CPA, MRICS, Law Society) preferred.
- Holder or ability to obtain UK government Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance; Security Check (SC) clearance preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative working style.
- Strong prioritization and leadership skills in high-pressure environments.
- Demonstrates integrity, confidence, and the ability to address major client needs.
- Willingness and ability to travel across the UK and beyond as required.

Qualifications
- Degree in a relevant discipline is essential.
- Postgraduate qualifications and professional accreditations are highly desirable.
- Security clearance eligibility is required to support Defence/Nuclear sector clients.
