As Commercial Manager - Environment, you will provide leadership and commercial expertise across the Environment Business Unit, reporting to the Assistant Commercial Director. Your role will be critical in ensuring bid submissions and projects are commercially robust and aligned with business plan performance metrics. You will engage proactively with clients and internal teams, lead contract and commercial matters, and support operational teams through guidance, training, and mentoring. You will also provide strategic commercial advice throughout the project lifecycle, collaborate with legal and finance functions, and help drive continuous improvement in commercial processes and risk management. This role offers the opportunity to influence major projects, develop junior colleagues, and contribute to AECOM’s reputation for excellence and integrity.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead commercial and contract management activities critical to business success across the Environment Business Unit.
- Build and maintain strong client and supplier relationships.
- Provide commercial leadership and strategic advice to bid and project teams.
- Mentor and develop junior commercial staff and wider project delivery teams.
- Manage contractual negotiations and ensure compliance with Delegations of Authority.
- Support business improvement initiatives and risk mitigation strategies.
- Deliver commercial training as part of graduate and development programmes.
- Demonstrate leadership in Safety, Quality, and Ethics.

Requirements

Experience
- Significant post-qualification experience in delivery, legal, commercial, or finance roles within the Built Environment or Construction industry.
- Detailed knowledge of construction contract suites including JCT, Government Frameworks, FIDIC, NEC PSC/ECC.
- Experience drafting and negotiating bespoke agreements with clients and suppliers.
- Pre-contract procurement and commercial management expertise.
- Strong understanding of risk mitigation and commercial acumen.
- Familiarity with pricing strategies, cross-border risks, and financial considerations.
- Experience in dispute avoidance and resolution.

Qualifications
- Degree qualified in business, finance, law, engineering or related discipline.
- Postgraduate business qualifications highly advantageous.
- Professional status preferred (e.g. ACCA, ACMA, CPA, MRICS, Law Society).
- Ability to obtain and maintain UK government Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), with preference for Security Check (SC) clearance.
- Demonstrable commercial and business analysis skills with ability to interpret complex data.
