About the Role
Murphy is recruiting an Environmental Advisor to join the Energy Team working on the SSE ASTI Framework. Our business is renowned for extensive in-house expertise, experience, and a continuous drive to innovate within the industry to create added value for all our customers. We support groundbreaking transmission and distribution projects across four countries, ensuring energy security for decades to come. Our services include design, construction, and commissioning, delivering Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) projects for both regulated and private customers, alongside technical and engineering solutions within conventional power and energy transition markets.
As an Environmental Advisor at Murphy, you will establish and promote best practices in environmental and sustainability matters in conjunction with the SHES function. Your responsibilities will include carrying out regular site inspections to ensure compliance with Company Policy, Procedures, and relevant statutory provisions. You will conduct incident investigations, analyse data, and make recommendations to prevent reoccurrences. You will collate environmental and sustainability statistics for reporting purposes and review environmental information to identify trends and areas for improvement.
You will develop and implement environment and sustainability campaigns and improvement plans in agreement with SHES Management, advise and support project teams in managing their environmental responsibilities, and provide assistance to all project personnel. You will identify significant environmental issues and help set up projects with appropriate controls. Additionally, you will ensure all necessary environmental and ecology consents, permits, or exemptions are obtained and maintain records to ensure compliance with legislation, company procedures, and contract requirements.
You will work within a small team of environmental specialists, liaising with third-party environment and ecology consultants, and share best practices with the growing Environment & Sustainability function.
Experience
Experience in an Environmental Advisory role within the construction or infrastructure sector is essential. Practical knowledge of environmental risk mitigation on significant construction projects including ecological mitigation, consents, licensing, DCO/TCPA planning discharge, water management, pollution prevention, biodiversity net gain, waste management, statutory nuisance, and contaminated land is required.
About you
You will have a working knowledge of the application of environmental law in the construction industry and be able to advise and support project teams effectively. Associate ISEP membership or working towards PISEP is desirable, and support for this transition will be provided. Knowledge of ISO 14001 standards is also important. You should be proactive, detail-oriented, and able to work collaboratively within a team and with external consultants.
Qualifications
A degree in Environmental Science or a related discipline is required. Additional professional qualifications related to environmental management or sustainability are advantageous.
