About the Role
Join Forestry England, a passionate team dedicated to growing and caring for the nation’s forests. As a Forest Craftsperson, you will support the beat forester in shaping and managing the land, undertaking a variety of operations and inspections across the forest. Your work will be vital in protecting and enhancing the forest landscape, often in physically challenging conditions and all weather, using a range of equipment including vibrating tools. You will be a champion of our health and safety culture, embodying the value of ‘look out and look after’ in all tasks.

This role involves working predominantly outdoors, managing your own time to maximise efficiency and effectiveness. You will ensure that all work meets contract requirements, industry standards, and health and safety regulations, while responding to local stakeholders as work programmes are developed and delivered. Appropriate on-the-job training, formal qualifications, and personal protective equipment will be provided.

The position is based in the Forest of Dean, a historic and ecologically rich forest with a mosaic of habitats and a stronghold for nature. You will work from the Forestry depot at Castlemain in Parkend, within the West England Forest District, which manages 38,500 hectares of forest across the west and south-west of England.

Requirements

Experience
Relevant experience supporting forestry operations and practical forest management is desirable. Experience working outdoors in physically demanding roles is advantageous.

About you
You are motivated, reliable, and enthusiastic about working outdoors in all weather conditions. You demonstrate a strong commitment to health and safety and are able to work independently while managing your time effectively. You value teamwork and are willing to learn and develop your skills through ongoing training and professional development.

Qualifications
No specific qualifications are required to apply, but a willingness to undertake formal training and gain relevant certifications is essential. Successful candidates will be subject to a criminal record check and government baseline personnel security standard check. Effective spoken English communication skills are required to meet the role’s responsibilities.
