About the Role
As a Hydrologist, you will be an integral part of our wider Water Resources and Flooding sub-sector, which brings together extensive expertise in hydrology, hydrogeology, water quality, catchment management, climate resilience, hydraulic modelling, flood risk, computational fluid dynamics and related disciplines. We have a strong track record in providing hydrology and climate science services to the UK and international water sectors. Our clients increasingly demand improved predictions of climate change impacts on water availability and flood frequency and magnitude, and we continually innovate to support them.
Our work includes developing advanced rainfall-runoff models, weather generators, and proprietary digital tools to analyse and process the latest climate projections. Our portfolio includes major UK water companies, the Environment Agency (EA), and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA). We are also involved in hydropower projects worldwide, supporting developers and lenders, and conducting climate change risk and impact assessments at local, regional, and national scales.
Mott MacDonald offers a unique working environment combining heritage, vision, and values that foster innovative thinking and career progression in technical, management, or commercial/client-facing roles. You will have control over your career path, supported by mentoring, training, and opportunities to take on new challenges and responsibilities.
Examples of your contributions may include:
- Low flow assessments and water systems modelling to define water availability during droughts
- Estimation of future climate variable changes using global or regional projections
- Flood hydrology studies incorporating climate change impacts
- Hydropower feasibility studies, including design flood definition and energy generation verification
- Climate change risk assessments of assets or portfolios of assets
Alongside your technical role, you will have opportunities to develop project management and business development skills through engagement with water sector and regulatory clients. Join us to do great things in a company that values innovation, career growth, and employee ownership.
