Our Water Consultancy Division is a centre of excellence addressing water and wastewater challenges, offering diverse and technically challenging work to ensure safe water supplies and environmental protection for future generations. Our multi-disciplinary teams provide services throughout the full project lifecycle, from advisory and feasibility studies to detailed design, construction support, and site supervision.

As a Senior Flood Risk Engineer, you will join a team with a strong track record in flood risk management, including award-winning schemes such as the Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme and the Avonmouth & Severnside Economic Area Ecological Mitigation and Flood Defence Project. You will undertake Flood Risk Assessments for new developments and lead the delivery of Nature Based Solutions for flood risk management. Working alongside Dam Engineers, you will conduct reservoir flood studies and contribute to economic appraisals, business case preparation, and hydraulic modelling.

This role offers you control over your career path with support through mentoring, training, and opportunities to take on new challenges and responsibilities. You will have the chance to develop project management skills and lead business development activities while working collaboratively within the Flood Risk Team and wider Water Resources and Rivers and Catchment sub-sectors, which encompass expertise in engineering, hydrology, hydrogeology, water quality, catchment management, and climate resilience.

Key responsibilities include:
- Undertaking and checking economic appraisals for Flood Alleviation Schemes
- Delivering Flood Risk Assessments and reservoir flood studies
- Preparing business cases to secure funding for Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Grant in Aid
- Conceptualising and scoping hydraulic modelling approaches
- Producing and checking high-quality client reports
- Mentoring and training junior staff
- Supporting clients in managing and adapting to flooding risks
- Developing project management and business development skills

Experience
- Delivering flood risk management studies including option appraisals compliant with English Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Appraisal Guidance
- Preparing business cases
- Project management and engineering design experience (desirable)
- Professional consultancy experience in flood risk management (desirable)

About you
- Degree level qualification in hydrology, geography, economics, mathematics, civil engineering, or related discipline
- Good communication and written skills
- Well organised and able to prioritise workload with minimal supervision
- Understanding of health, safety, and environmental priorities
- Chartered or Incorporated status with a relevant professional body (e.g. ICE, CIWEM, IMA) is desirable
- A great team player with a collaborative spirit, keen to contribute within a multi-disciplinary environment
