Instrument Control Automation Technician (Control and Instrumentation Technician)


Location
Crossness Sewage Treatment Works, SE2 9AQ, London, with travel to various Water Treatment Works and borehole sites around the Crossness area.
Hours
38 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7:30 am - 3:36 pm. Standby and overtime opportunities available, increasing earnings potential.
Salary
Up to £47,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for an Instrumentation, Control & Automation (ICA) or Control and Instrumentation (C&I) technician to join our team. This is a mobile role requiring work across various water production sites. You will be responsible for installations, commissioning, maintenance, and repairs of water production assets including level instrumentation, flow meters, and turbidity monitors. The role involves working with SCADA systems, PLCs (Rockwell & Allen-Bradley), and process control networks. You will liaise with and supervise contractors and suppliers as needed, investigate asset failures, and implement repairs promptly to avoid interruptions to the water supply process. Additionally, you will provide specialist technical advice, maintain up-to-date technical knowledge, and support training for technical apprentices. All work must be carried out safely, efficiently, and to manufacturers' standards to meet statutory obligations and maintain asset availability and performance.

All PPE, tools, a company van, and a fuel card.
Experience
- Knowledge and experience working with relay logic and PLCs (Rockwell & Allen-Bradley), including management and programming.
- Experience in calibration and maintenance of front-line instrumentation.
- Ability to read and fault-find from circuit diagrams.
- Previous experience with inverter drives.
- Practical understanding of operational plant and control systems.
- Experience working with SCADA systems such as Wonderware and ClearSCADA is desirable.

Qualifications
- Ideally qualified to HNC level or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in instrumentation, control and automation discipline.
- Preferably holds an 18th Edition (BS7671) qualification.
