Hours
38 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7:30 am – 3:36 pm plus standby rota

Salary
Up to £45,000 per annum depending on skills and experience. Standby rota payments and overtime opportunities can increase earning potential by up to a further £8,000-£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.

About the Role
As a Mechanical and Electrical Technician, you will use your mechanical and electrical knowledge and experience to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify, or repair mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment safely, efficiently, and with minimum supervision. Your work will ensure that all sites remain operational for the benefit of customers and actively contribute to reducing pollution and Thames Water's environmental impact.

You will carry out scheduled planned maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures to minimise plant breakdowns. Investigating plant failures and carrying out repairs promptly to avoid process interruptions will be a key responsibility. This may involve diagnosing complex faults and repairing during incidents.

You will provide technical advice, refer to up-to-date technical knowledge, and support or train technical trainees when required. Equipment you will work on includes various pumps and associated control gear, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as variable speed drives (VSDs), automatic valves and penstocks, flow, level and pressure measurement devices, programmable logic controllers, chemical handling and dosing equipment.

You will participate in a standby rota following relevant training. All PPE, tools, a company van, and a fuel card are provided.

Requirements

Experience
You should be a time-served electrical apprentice with significant experience working in a true multi-skilled capacity. Ideally, you will have been upskilled with a mechanical qualification to enable you to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify, or repair mechanical and electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently. For candidates with experience in only one discipline (mechanical or electrical), Thames Water will support development to dual-skilled status.

Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are essential. The role requires physical fitness as some work will be in confined spaces following successful completion of appropriate training.

About you
You are motivated, reliable, and safety-conscious with a strong commitment to quality and environmental standards. You work well independently and as part of a team and are willing to participate in a standby rota. A valid driving licence is essential.

Qualifications
Previous experience in an electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ, or City & Guilds Level 3 in Electrical Engineering is required. An upskill in mechanical NVQ Level 2 or 3 is crucial or will be supported. All necessary equipment, including vehicle and tools, will be provided.
