About the Role

As a Principal – EIA & Consents, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the infrastructure of tomorrow by leading Environmental Impact Assessments and consenting strategies across major UK infrastructure projects in sectors including transmission and distribution (T&D), energy, water and transportation.
You will help clients navigate complex environmental assessment, planning and consenting challenges to ensure projects are designed and delivered responsibly, sustainably and successfully. Working at the heart of nationally significant programmes, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and engage with clients, regulators, stakeholders and communities.
Your expertise will guide the development of environmental mitigation strategies, support planning submissions, and contribute to consultations and stakeholder engagement, making a real difference to project outcomes and environmental performance.
Experience
Proven experience supporting or delivering Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), environmental planning or consenting projects, ideally within environmental or engineering consultancies or regulated industries. Experience across T&D, energy, water or transportation infrastructure is highly desirable.
Strong knowledge of UK planning policy, environmental legislation and consenting processes, with the ability to apply this knowledge practically.
Demonstrated ability to lead EIA activities including screening, scoping, baseline studies, impact assessments and Environmental Statement chapter preparation.
Experience coordinating specialist environmental inputs such as air quality, noise, biodiversity, landscape, water environment and climate.

You have strong analytical skills and are confident interpreting data to identify environmental constraints and develop mitigation strategies.
You are highly organised with the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple projects.
You are motivated by making a meaningful contribution to sustainable infrastructure and enjoy working within multidisciplinary teams and engaging with diverse stakeholders.
Qualifications
A degree in environmental science, environmental planning, engineering or a related discipline.
Progress towards or interest in achieving professional membership with IEMA, CIEEM, CIWEM or RTPI is encouraged.
A strong understanding of EIA Regulations, environmental legislation and planning frameworks.
Commercial awareness and an understanding of the consenting landscape to support robust project delivery.
