About the Role
The UK water sector is entering a period of unprecedented investment and transformation. Egis is rapidly expanding its Water Business in the UK and is building a high-performing Process Engineering team to help shape this next chapter. As a Principal Process Engineer, you will lead process design delivery on multidisciplinary water and wastewater treatment projects across the full design lifecycle. You will act as the process technical lead, owning design strategy, treatment process selection, key decisions, interfaces, risks and quality of deliverables. Working within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, you will contribute to technically robust, sustainable and innovative treatment solutions across nationally significant projects. This is a rare opportunity to join at a key stage of Egis’ UK growth journey, helping to establish, shape and expand a process engineering capability built on global infrastructure expertise and long-term commitment to the sector.
Key responsibilities include leading process modelling and simulation activities using tools such as BioWin, SUMO, Dynamizu or equivalents; driving multidisciplinary coordination across Mechanical, EICA, civil/structural, architectural, MEP, construction, commissioning and operations teams; promoting lean and digitally enabled delivery through standardised tools, process models, automation, data analysis and reusable templates; providing technical assurance and supporting project managers with technical risk, scope, resourcing, programme and change control; mentoring and managing engineers; and contributing to bids, client engagement and growth of the process capability.
Egis is recognised globally for excellence in HR practices and is a leader in sustainable infrastructure, mobility and energy. The role offers clear and accelerated career progression, a highly competitive reward package, hybrid and flexible working, 26+ days annual leave plus bank holidays, professional development, chartership support, global mobility and a supportive, inclusive culture driven by sustainability and long-term community impact.
Experience
Typically 8–10+ years’ relevant process design experience in water, wastewater and/or biosolids/sludge treatment design. Proven ability to act as process discipline lead or senior technical lead on multidisciplinary projects. Strong technical expertise in water/wastewater treatment process design including process selection, mass balance, process capacity, PFDs, P&IDs and design basis development. Practical experience using process modelling/simulation packages such as BioWin, SUMO, Dynamizu or equivalent. Strong understanding of UK water industry standards, CDM 2015, process safety, safety-by-design, regulatory drivers and common delivery models. Confident client-facing communicator with experience leading workshops, technical reviews and design discussions. Experience mentoring or managing engineers and supporting technical capability development.
About you
Motivated to play a meaningful role in delivering major water and wastewater programmes. Collaborative and able to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams. Committed to sustainable and innovative engineering solutions. Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and develop others. Excellent communication skills for client engagement and internal collaboration. Adaptable to a fast-growing, high-impact environment.
Qualifications
BEng/MEng or equivalent in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or a closely related discipline. Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer status with a relevant professional institution such as IChemE. Desirable skills include deep experience in wastewater treatment, clean water treatment, sludge/bioresources, nutrient removal, water reuse/recycling, process optimisation, chemical dosing, energy recovery or low-carbon design. Experience delivering AMP8, WINEP, SRO, D&B, framework, alliance or contractor-led projects. Advanced capability in process model calibration, scenario testing, dynamic simulation or operational optimisation. Experience developing process design standards, calculation tools, modelling workflows, QA processes or reusable digital templates. Experience contributing to recruitment, resource planning, bid writing, technical proposals, client presentations or new service development.
