About the Role
Join AECOM’s dynamic Nature team as a Principal Marine Ecologist and apply your expertise on national and international projects across diverse sectors including power and infrastructure schemes, floating offshore wind, interconnectors, habitat restoration, flood defence, and coastal developments such as marinas, jetties, slipways, wharf and port projects. You will provide technical leadership and marine ecological advice, delivering marine ecology impact assessments including Environmental Statements, Habitats Regulations Assessments, Marine Conservation Zones and Water Framework Directive assessments. You will support the full consenting and licensing process for marine projects, working closely with regulatory bodies. As a client-facing expert, you will lead technical project delivery, contribute to business development, and mentor junior team members. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including underwater acoustics, coastal processes, water scientists, marine archaeologists and EIA specialists to enhance environmental outcomes. You will manage projects effectively, including budgets and resources, and procure specialist subcontractors as needed. Requirements

Experience
- Comprehensive marine ecological expertise with proven experience preparing and reviewing technical chapters and impact assessments (EIA, HRA, MCZ, WFD).
- Detailed knowledge of UK marine consenting and licensing regimes with experience liaising with regulatory bodies such as MMO, NRW, Scottish MD and The Crown Estate.
- Ability to provide advanced scientific advice and apply cutting-edge practices across diverse marine projects.
- Experience in team coordination, including line management and mentoring junior staff.
- Proven business development skills including tender preparation and client presentations.

Qualifications
Relevant degree or equivalent qualifications in marine ecology or related environmental science disciplines. Professional accreditation or membership of relevant ecological or environmental bodies is desirable but not essential. Commitment to ongoing professional development and project management training.
