About the Role
We have an opportunity for a Project Engineering Manager to join our growing Engineering Design team supporting secured frameworks and confirmed demand with Southern Water, Northumbrian Water, Thames Water, Severn Trent Water and United Utilities. The role involves multi-discipline engineering team leadership and coordination across the engineering project lifecycle for Costain’s Water sector projects. You will manage the delivery of multi-disciplinary engineering design on complex wastewater and clean water infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects throughout all project stages, from needs and solution identification, optioneering, outline design, and detailed design in a design and build environment.
As a client-facing Project Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring projects meet schedule, budget, safety, environmental and quality requirements, including defining and agreeing requirements with clients. This role requires effective coordination of engineering and design interfaces, management of contractual communications, risk reduction, cost reporting, and leading multi-disciplinary design teams.
The role supports Costain’s dynamic working policy, allowing flexibility based on individual circumstances, role, client, business and team requirements.
Experience
- Significant UK experience coordinating multi-discipline teams through all project lifecycle stages on major Water Sector contracts.
- Thorough knowledge of UK major project delivery processes from work winning to project handover.
- Strong understanding of UK technical and regulatory standards and global best practice.
- Proven process safety, quality and environmental leadership.
- Significant knowledge of Project Controls including Schedule, Cost, Risk and Change Management.
- Experienced in customer-facing roles with strong relationship development and influencing skills.

Qualifications
- Essential: Honours Degree or equivalent qualification in an engineering related subject.
- Desirable: Chartered Engineer status and membership of a professional engineering institution.
- Desirable: Association for Project Management qualification.
