About the Role
Fuse Energy is a forward-thinking renewable energy startup on a mission to deliver a terawatt of renewable energy rapidly. We combine first-principles thinking with cutting-edge technology to build a radically better energy system. Our fully integrated energy company develops solar, wind, and hydrogen projects, real-time power trading, and distributed energy installations, cutting out the middleman to lower costs and pass savings to customers. We are also building the Energy Network, a decentralised platform of smart devices to electrify homes, shift usage to off-peak hours, and help balance the grid, strengthening grid stability for scaling AI data centers and other energy-intensive industries.
The Senior Authorised Person (SAP) will lead and oversee all high-voltage (HV) operational, commissioning, and safety activities across electrical infrastructure projects. This role ensures safe, compliant, and efficient energisation and network operation, managing HV switching, commissioning, fault response, and network integrity throughout construction and operational phases. Acting as the technical authority for HV safety and operations, you will work closely with DNO/IDNOs, contractors, and internal teams to deliver compliant and reliable electrical infrastructure. This position reports to the Head of Projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, execute, and oversee HV switching schedules including isolation, earthing, and system safety in line with Distribution Safety Rules
- Issue safety documentation such as Permits to Work, Sanctions for Test, and Limitations of Access
- Ensure strict adherence to HV safety procedures including LOTO and operational risk controls
- Act as the authorised point of control for HV systems and switching activities
- Perform and witness pre-commissioning, testing, inspection, and commissioning of HV/LV equipment (up to 132kV)
- Oversee testing of switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, busbars, CT metering, and control systems
- Support energisation activities and ensure system readiness for operation
- Liaise with DNO/IDNO engineers for final connections, energisation, and substation handovers
- Coordinate with ICPs and contractors during construction and installation phases
- Manage fault location, diagnostics, and repair activities across HV/LV networks
- Lead outage planning and system recovery to minimise downtime and operational risk
- Develop and review method statements, risk assessments, and safety procedures
- Audit assets under construction and identify non-conformances
- Supervise and mentor junior staff, supporting competency development and assessments
- Act as key interface with clients, resolving technical and operational issues
- Represent the company in client meetings and industry forums as required
Experience
- Current or recent Senior Authorised Person (SAP) authorisation (minimum 33kV, ideally up to 132kV)
- 5+ years’ experience in HV/LV operations, commissioning, or substation delivery within the utilities sector
- Strong knowledge of HV/LV networks including cables, protection systems, and SCADA
- Hands-on experience with electrical testing (IR, continuity, VLF, Ductor, pressure testing, etc.)
- Experience in fault finding, diagnostics, and outage planning
- Strong understanding of Distribution Safety Rules, HSE legislation, and regulatory frameworks
About you
- Safety-first mindset with strong attention to detail
- Calm and decisive under pressure, particularly during fault scenarios and switching operations
- Strong communicator with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders
- Hands-on and proactive with a solutions-oriented approach
- High level of accountability and ownership in critical environments
Qualifications
- HNC, Degree, or equivalent in Electrical Engineering
- Recognised Health & Safety qualification (e.g. SSSTS, IOSH, or equivalent)
