About the Role
Costain has secured extensive work across the water sector to support the AMP 8 investment cycle and has been appointed by Severn Trent Water to help shape and deliver its AMP8 framework. We are seeking an experienced Senior Design Manager to join the Framework team and drive quality design and delivery. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will be responsible for managing the design delivery partners working on the AMP8 Framework. You will adopt a hybrid working model and split your time between regional offices and home as required.

You will have experience within the water sector, working in Mechanical, Electrical ICA or Civils disciplines in design or capital delivery roles. As a motivated team player, you will work collaboratively with multiple teams to deliver production thinking, carbon-efficient design solutions. You will demonstrate a thorough understanding of design delivery, procurement, management, control, quality assurance, BIM to ISO 19650, and have working knowledge of the NEC4 suite of contracts.

Key Responsibilities:
- Identify design scope and deliverables
- Support development and agreement of design scopes, programmes and budgets
- Manage allocated design partners and project teams to deliver against agreed design deliverables, programmes and budgets
- Manage design contracts and coordinate reporting aligned to Framework requirements
- Ensure design compliance with Severn Trent Water, industry and Costain standards, securing necessary derogations
- Challenge design solutions to ensure safe, efficient, buildable designs considering DfMA and low carbon solutions meeting client affordability challenges
- Hold and record regular design meetings to actively manage progress and coordination
- Coordinate and manage design risk, buildability, carbon and DfMA workshops
- Manage design reviews, technical assurance reviews and CDM reviews
- Ensure design implementation aligns with project BIM strategy
- Stay conversant with relevant legislation, especially health and safety
- Promote the business professionally to internal and external stakeholders
- Maintain and grow professional relationships with design, delivery, commercial and employer teams
- Liaise closely with Framework team members to support procurement decision making
- Adhere to Costain governance in design management and project delivery

Experience
- Civil, Mechanical or EICA engineering qualification with practical delivery experience
- Experience working within the water industry (preferred)
- Previous management experience on complex or sensitive programmes
- Practical experience with NEC4 contracts
- Strong organisational, communication and stakeholder management skills
- Passionate about improving sector performance through best practice and continuous improvement
- Ability to work and learn quickly in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Positive and proactive attitude

- Chartered Engineer or equivalent relevant institution membership
- Civil, Mechanical or EICA engineering qualification
- SMSTS
- CSCS
- Valid driving licence
