About the Role
Join AECOM, a global infrastructure consulting firm, and be part of a talented team shaping the future of energy infrastructure. As a Senior Electrical Design Engineer, you will deliver cutting-edge designs for energy storage, solar, and grid connection projects, working on some of the largest Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in the UK and Europe. This role focuses on renewables and energy storage, grid connections, and private networks at voltage levels between 11kV and 400kV. Typical projects include feasibility, optioneering, FEED, detailed design, and design assurance for renewable generation such as pumped storage hydro, PV, wind, and collocated BESS.

You will work on large projects and frameworks with renewable energy developers primarily in the UK and Ireland, with some global exposure. Responsibilities include Front End Engineering Design (FEED), design for planning, feasibility studies of energy storage systems and associated grid connections, control and metering, and designing BESS balance of plant (BOP) systems. You will develop grid connection solutions (11kV–400kV) for energy storage and renewables, collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and clients to deliver innovative solutions, and support bidding, project, and quality management.

Experience
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Experience in FEED design, detailed design, or owner’s engineer roles.
- Strong understanding of renewable generation and energy storage technologies, especially battery storage of various types and chemistries.
- Experience designing HV grid connections, metering, and control systems for battery storage installations, including BESS collocated with renewable generation.
- Previous roles in consultancy, contractor, equipment manufacturer, or electrical utility within the energy sector.
- Knowledge of grid connection requirements including G99, G100, and grid codes for transmission-connected assets.
- Familiarity with electrical plant items and control systems such as transformers, cables, circuit breakers, HV Protection & Control.
- Proficiency with software tools such as AutoCAD, EnergyPro, CYMCAP, Cableizer, Autodesk Construction Cloud, ETAP, DigSILENT.
- Awareness of emerging technologies including hybrid systems, grid-forming inverters, long-duration energy storage (LDES), and alternative battery technologies.
