About the Role

As a Senior Electrical Design Engineer, you will deliver cutting-edge designs for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), solar, and grid connection projects. This role offers the opportunity to work on some of the largest BESS projects in the UK and Europe, contributing to the global energy transition and sustainable energy solutions.

Your focus will be on renewables, energy storage, grid connections, and private networks at voltage levels between 11kV and 400kV. Typical projects include feasibility studies, optioneering, Front End Engineering Design (FEED), detailed design, and design assurance for renewable generation such as pumped storage hydro, photovoltaic (PV), wind, and collocated BESS.

Key responsibilities include working on large projects and frameworks with renewable energy developers primarily in the UK and Ireland, undertaking FEED and design for planning, developing grid connection solutions, designing BESS balance of plant (BOP) systems, and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams and clients to deliver innovative solutions. You will also support bidding, project, and quality management activities.

Experience
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Experience in FEED design, detailed design, or owner’s engineer roles
- Strong understanding of renewable generation and energy storage technologies, especially battery storage of various types and chemistries
- Proven experience designing HV grid connections, metering, and control systems for battery storage installations, including BESS collocated with renewables
- Background in consultancy, contracting, equipment manufacturing, or electrical utilities within the energy sector
- Knowledge of grid connection requirements including G99, G100, and transmission grid codes
- Familiarity with electrical plant items and control systems such as transformers, cables, circuit breakers, HV protection and control
- Proficiency with software tools like AutoCAD, EnergyPro, CYMCAP, Cableizer, Autodesk Construction Cloud, ETAP, DigSILENT
- Awareness of emerging technologies such as hybrid systems, grid-forming inverters, long-duration energy storage (LDES), and alternative battery technologies

- Client-focused with strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Effective team player able to collaborate across disciplines
- Professional registration (e.g., Chartered Engineer or working towards it) is desirable
- Experience in project management including budget, time, and quality control is advantageous
- Experience with multi-discipline engineering projects and site construction review is a plus
