About the Role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Flood Risk Consultant to join our thriving Water Environment team within our Birmingham office. This role offers the chance to lead hydrological and hydraulic modelling on a range of projects locally and nationally, while mentoring and developing other consultants. You will develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and regulators, managing varied and challenging projects across a diverse portfolio. Your responsibilities will extend beyond technical execution to include business development activities such as work-winning strategies, budgetary control, and preparation of comprehensive fee proposals. You will play a pivotal role in the strategic growth and development of the region's Water & Environment Team.
While working within a design office environment, you will also attend design and site meetings, conduct site inspections, and provide detailed progress reports. Effective communication and liaison with clients, architects, contractors, and regulatory/statutory authorities are essential to ensure project success. Your technical expertise will be applied in hydrological and hydraulic modelling, as well as completing thorough Flood Risk Assessments. You will also contribute to bid preparation, fee proposal creation, research, and business development to support the expansion of our services.

Experience
Significant consultancy or industry experience as a senior modeller with substantial expertise in flood risk assessments in accordance with the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and, where applicable, Technical Advice Note 15 (TAN 15). Proven experience in hydrological and hydraulic modelling, frequently using software such as Flood Modeler Pro or TUFLOW. Strong understanding of the operational frameworks of the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales, and Lead Local Flood Authorities.
Experience in business development, project management, budget control, and client relationship management is essential.

A self-motivated team player with exceptional interpersonal skills, capable of working autonomously while effectively coordinating with line management. Strong communicator able to liaise with clients, architects, contractors, and regulatory/statutory authorities. Understanding of the developer industry is considered a valuable asset.

Qualifications
A strong Bachelor's degree in a water-related discipline is required, ideally complemented by a higher degree. Up-to-date knowledge of current planning policies and procedures with the ability to leverage these to maximise client service and secure necessary approvals.
