About the Role
Due to project growth, the position of Site Manager has become available to join our successful team based in Marks Tey, Essex. Costain is the preferred bidder for the East of England Construction Management Organisation (CMO) working with Cadent, the UK’s largest Gas Distribution Company. Cadent operates 4 of the 8 UK Gas Distribution Networks, spanning over 131,000 kilometres of pipes supplying 11 million homes and businesses. Central to Costain’s role is the strategic planning and programme management of Cadent’s capital investment programme, focusing on delivering improved regulatory performance and future-proofing the network for the benefit of Cadent’s customers.
The Site Manager will provide all necessary coordination of personnel, local delivery partners, site management, customer care officers, supervision, and technical support in the delivery of construction work including replacement, reinforcements, diversions, multiple occupancy buildings, and reinstatement activities in accordance with designers’ directions across the East of England network. Maximising the customer experience and ensuring Costain’s commitments to Cadent are met is a key priority. Responsibilities
- Consistently demonstrate, promote and develop high standards of safety behaviour, leading by example
- Develop a programme of work ensuring projects are issued, monitored and delivered to cost and time in accordance with legislative, regulatory, Cadent technical standards, policies and procedures
- Act as competent person for Flow Stopping and Commissioning Operations in line with Cadent Safe Control of Operations, Main Laying and Service Laying Procedures
- Manage the performance of the supply chain to ensure key contract objectives are delivered
- Act as a key advocate for the contract with senior representatives from local authority organisations to promote Cadent activities
- Manage engineering teams to optimise operational activities ensuring key business objectives are delivered
- Ensure the highest standard of customer service and safety standards are delivered, providing assurance through audit and inspection and taking appropriate action to address areas of improvement
- Support the Area Manager in identifying areas for improvement and lead on initiatives as appropriate
- Maximise staff engagement through team talks, addressing staff issues, identifying development needs, and delivering toolbox talks, safety briefings and team briefs
- Investigate and resolve customer queries, claims and complaints professionally and expediently
- Undertake or assist with incident reporting, investigations, submission of final reports and close out of remedial actions
- Undertake or work towards Temporary Works Supervisor duties for temporary works operations
- Continually monitor operative performance and foster a culture of team working and safety, promoting zero tolerance of safety and compliance breaches and working towards an Injury Free Environment
- Carry out standby and call out duties as required
- Perform any other reasonable duties appropriate for the role
Experience
- Previous gas supervisory experience is beneficial but not essential
- Site management experience
- Experience in delivering works safely and compliantly
- Experience in operations relevant to Safe Control of Operations (SCO) procedures is beneficial but not essential

- Competent Person for routine operations (SCO5)
- Authorising Engineer for permit to work for excavations (SCO2)
- Temporary Works Appointed Person (Temporary Work Supervisor – BS5975)
- NRSWA Supervisor
- SHEA Gas Deep Excavation qualification
- Working at Height appreciation
- UMSTS / SMSTS
- Current UK driving licence
