About the Role
SLR Consulting Limited's Sustainable Waste Management (SWM) team is expanding its respected waste management due diligence capabilities to meet strong demand. We seek a Technical Director with extensive and demonstrable experience in winning, leading, and delivering high-level due diligence support to waste management, infrastructure, and financial entities. You will be a recognized industry expert with strong market relationships to develop the team’s M&A workstream and foster long-term client partnerships. Our M&A support spans commercial, technical, environmental, and ESG aspects, with particular emphasis on commercial and technical expertise.
Our SWM team provides practical technical advice across municipal, household, commercial, industrial, hazardous, agricultural, and mining waste projects. We are expanding our specialisms to address sustainability, circular economy, and climate impact mitigation challenges, ensuring comprehensive resource management services.
Technical service offerings include:
- Advice to the financial sector (due diligence, market assessment)
- Advice to construction companies and waste technology providers (carbon assessments, waste management plans)
- Public sector waste support (strategy development, options analysis, service improvement, contract procurement)
- Private sector waste support (bid development)
- Waste logistics
- Circularity and sustainability studies
The role involves managing projects end-to-end, working closely with technical specialists to deliver excellence. Business development and client management in fast-paced projects are key strengths required. You will have a strong understanding of market dynamics, cost modelling, feedstock analysis, and experience delivering across infrastructure projects such as AD, EfW, and MRF in the UK and internationally. You will understand technical risks related to facility design, construction, and operation, alongside relevant regulatory frameworks and policies.
Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential to develop concise, impactful due diligence reports for investors and senior stakeholders. You will confidently present to clients and project stakeholders at all seniority levels.
Main objectives:
- Undertake reactive and proactive business development to secure M&A support projects and lead the growth of the SWM team
- Lead projects as the key client interface, ensuring efficient, high-quality deliverables
- Act as a technical and commercial expert, communicating persuasively
- Maintain expert knowledge of UK waste sector developments, policies, infrastructure, market dynamics, and commercial trends
- Lead development of high-quality bid submissions aligned with SLR’s strategic and financial goals
- Oversee projects to meet client and business objectives, tracking budgets and forecasts proactively
- Support and develop mid-grade and junior staff to build a leading service offering

Experience
- Extensive experience working with or for commercial entities on due diligence projects within the waste and resources sector
- Proven track record in winning, leading, and delivering high-level due diligence support
- Strong understanding of resources and waste management, legislative and policy drivers, and market dynamics
- Experience leading business development activities and securing new opportunities
- Knowledge of infrastructure projects such as AD, EfW, and MRF, including technical risks and regulatory frameworks
