We are recruiting a Trainee Construction Site Engineering Technician on behalf of a leading specialist contractor delivering major civil engineering and construction projects across London. This role is open only to residents of Wandsworth or Lambeth, in line with local employment requirements.

This apprenticeship includes one day per week at college and leads to a Level 4 HNC in Construction and the Built Environment. Before being offered the role, candidates must complete one week of unpaid work experience on-site as part of the selection process.

The role is ideal for motivated individuals with strong academic capability, an interest in engineering and the built environment, and a desire to pursue a long-term technical career in construction.

Key Responsibilities

• Support dimensional control activities on construction projects
• Assist design teams with civil engineering solutions
• Supervise specialist contractors under guidance
• Contribute to on-site health and safety control
• Record, monitor, and report project progress during client and site visits
• Support environmental impact minimisation measures
• Assist with setting out, levelling, and surveying (Total Station, Auto Levels, etc.)
• Support ordering and control of materials such as concrete and reinforcement
• Assist with document control and project records
• Ensure quality standards are met across engineering works

Essential

• Three A-Levels at grade A–B (preferred), plus GCSEs in:
  • Maths (Grade B / 5 or 6)
  • English
  • Science subject
• Valid CSCS card
• Previous construction or site-based experience
• Interest in construction, engineering, technology, and materials
• Strong teamwork and communication skills
• Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
• Right to work permanently and legally in the UK
• Full driving licence preferred
• Willingness and ability to travel to different sites

Desirable

• Additional technical or engineering-related experience

Role Details

• Full-time apprenticeship position
• Based in Lambeth, working across construction sites as required
• 40 hours per week (including one day release for college)
• Mandatory one-week unpaid work experience prior to offer
• Apprenticeship leading to Level 4 HNC (2–2.5 years)
• Supports progression toward further study (e.g., BSc Civil Engineering)
