As part of a growing and agile Environmental Planning team, we are seeking a Scotland-based Principal/Associate Technical Director with a strong track record in leading environmental and consenting aspects of projects, particularly in winning and delivering work within the environmental planning sector.
Your expertise in environmental management, technical or sustainability fields will support projects involving protected species, pollution, surface water and materials management, air quality, or noise, often in some of the world’s busiest and most beautiful locations. You will help protect our natural environment and water resources while powering the world for future generations.
You will work on a diverse range of projects including large-scale energy and infrastructure, rail, highways, water, mixed-use development schemes for private and public clients, public realm, and masterplanning projects, as well as smaller agile projects. We drive technical excellence and promote a flexible, collaborative environment supported by digital innovation.
You will play a key role in delivering multidisciplinary projects across the UK and globally, working collaboratively with technical specialists and clients, developing new business opportunities, and leading project delivery.
Key responsibilities include leading coordination and delivery of planning and environmental work by multi-disciplinary teams, influencing project development to achieve optimal environmental and planning outcomes with a strong understanding of the UK planning and legal system. You will lead business development efforts, create project opportunities, manage client relationships, engage with consultees and stakeholders, and oversee project performance in technical, quality, commercial, and health and safety aspects.
You will also collaborate closely with colleagues across Arcadis’ global business to ensure successful project outcomes.
Experience
- Excellent working knowledge of environmental and consenting processes, including EIA practices, procedures, and case law
- Solid understanding of environmental and sustainability principles and technical specialisms
- Experience across a range of project types
- Strong report writing, verbal, and presentation skills with experience reviewing others’ work to ensure quality
- Proven multi-disciplinary coordination and leadership of projects with good project management and technical skills
- Experience consulting and negotiating with planning authorities, regulators, and stakeholders
- Commercial expertise including forecasting, project management, and quality assurance
