About the Role
Arcadis is the world's leading company delivering sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets. With over 34,000 people across more than 30 countries, we are dedicated to improving quality of life by solving complex challenges together. As part of our growing and agile Environmental Planning team, we are seeking a Principal/Associate Technical Director with a strong track record in leading environmental and consenting aspects of projects, particularly within the Design and Build sector.
In this role, you will contribute to improving quality of life through your expertise in environmental management, technical or sustainability disciplines. Your work may involve protected species, pollution control, surface water and materials management, air quality, or noise, often in some of the world’s busiest and most scenic locations. We focus on protecting natural environments and water resources while supporting sustainable development for future generations.
You will work on a diverse portfolio including large-scale energy and infrastructure projects, rail, highways, water, mixed-use developments, public realm, and masterplanning schemes for both private and public clients. We promote technical excellence, flexibility, collaboration, and digital innovation. Your leadership will be key to delivering multidisciplinary projects across the UK and internationally.
Your responsibilities will include leading the coordination and delivery of planning and environmental work by multi-disciplinary teams, influencing project development to achieve optimal environmental and planning outcomes with a strong understanding of the Design & Build process. You will drive business development, create project opportunities, lead project delivery, and build our portfolio in the Design & Build sector while collaborating closely with upstream Environmental and Planning teams.
You will raise awareness of our services, win new opportunities, build client relationships, and create cross-selling opportunities across the wider business. Engaging with consultees and stakeholders, managing projects, and overseeing technical, quality, commercial, and health and safety performance will also be key aspects of your role. You will work closely with established Arcadis colleagues across our global business network.
Experience
Excellent working knowledge of environmental and consenting processes, including EIA practices, procedures, and relevant case law. Strong understanding of environmental and sustainability principles and technical specialisms. Proven experience working with contractors and influencing sustainability through design. Experience across a range of project types. Strong report writing, verbal, and presentation skills, with experience reviewing others’ work to ensure quality. Demonstrated ability in multi-disciplinary coordination and leadership of projects, with solid project management and technical skills. Experience consulting and negotiating with planning authorities, regulators, and stakeholders. Commercial expertise including forecasting, project management, and quality assurance.
About you
A flexible, pragmatic, and collaborative professional with a passion for delivering sustainable solutions. Strong leadership and business development skills with the ability to build and maintain client relationships. Motivated to work in a dynamic, innovative environment and contribute to a global team.
