About the Role
We’re dedicated to protecting the environment and enhancing the communities we serve. Our mission goes beyond delivering one of life’s essentials; we’re committed to sustainability and making a positive difference across our region. Join us to be part of something meaningful and lasting that will leave a legacy for generations to come. This field-based role involves macroinvertebrate sampling using kick-net techniques, water quality assessments, and identifying species to family level for RIVPACS analysis. You will also support wider team activities such as zooplankton analysis, algal and wastewater monitoring, and contribute to high-quality reporting for ecological assessments and compliance.

You will join a caring culture that collaborates to achieve, grow, and develop. Our employee engagement scores are among the highest globally in the energy and utilities sector. We value in-person moments to keep our culture alive, while also recognising the flexibility that working from home can bring. This role starts from home and involves travelling across our region. While predominantly field-based, home working is supported when appropriate.

Key Accountabilities:
- Conduct kick-net sampling of macroinvertebrates and perform in-situ water quality measurements (temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, turbidity).
- Identify macroinvertebrates to family level for RIVPACS analysis using appropriate keys and support broader monitoring activities including zooplankton and algal assessments.
- Maintain detailed field records and prepare technical reports with ecological assessments, data interpretation, and recommendations.
- Collaborate closely with team members and stakeholders, ensuring safe fieldwork practices and assisting with calibration and upkeep of sampling equipment.
- Provide expertise in fish identification, health, and fishery recovery.

Requirements

Experience
Proven report writing and data analysis skills with a keen eye for detail. Experience in ecological fieldwork and species identification is highly desirable.

About you
Passionate about environmental protection and sustainability. You are motivated to be part of something bigger and make a difference because you care. You work well both independently and collaboratively within a team. You are adaptable to fieldwork conditions and flexible working arrangements.

Qualifications
Ideally hold a degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field. We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and value individuality as it enriches our team and community impact.
