About the Role
We are excited to be hiring two Community Engagement Officers to join our fantastic Countryside Team. You will help drive community and volunteer engagement within Surrey’s tree planting initiative, aiming to increase biodiversity and encourage participation from diverse groups. This role is pivotal to delivering Surrey County Council's 1.2 million tree planting initiative and climate change agenda.

You will act as a critical interface between Surrey County Council, the county Boroughs/Districts, and a wide range of stakeholders including members of the public, schools, and community groups. The role involves a flexible working pattern with a mix of office, site, and some home-based work. Regular visits to potential planting sites across the county and attendance at engagement events will be required.

Key responsibilities include organising and attending volunteer tree planting days and engagement events, collaborating with colleagues across the council, planning site visits to support project delivery and aftercare, developing communications to maintain stakeholder engagement, identifying and contacting community groups for project delivery, coordinating aftercare activities, and recruiting and briefing volunteers using a Volunteer Management System.

This fixed-term position runs until 31 March 2027 and offers an excellent opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of Surrey residents.

Experience
Experience working with the public, such as schools, community partners, or charities. Experience working with or managing volunteers is essential.

About you
A passion for trees and Surrey’s greener future. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills including the ability to influence and negotiate. Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage your own workload. Must hold a valid UK driving licence, have access to a vehicle, and be willing to travel across a wide geographical area.
