Location
Mickleham, Surrey, with work opportunities across various Surrey locations including Henley Fort Outdoor Learning Centre (Guildford), Thames Young Mariners Outdoor Learning Centre (Ham, Richmond), High Ashurst Outdoor Learning Centre (Headley Lane, Mickleham, Dorking), Angel Blue (Dapdune Wharf, Guildford) and outreach sites.
Hours
Flexible bank contracts with various hours available, usually a minimum of seven hours per shift. Work opportunities available seven days per week.
Salary
Starting hourly rate of £13.71 plus £2.12 per hour leave allowance.
About the Role
We are seeking enthusiastic bank Outdoor Learning Instructors to join Surrey Outdoor Learning and Development (SOLD) starting Spring 2027. This entry-level role is ideal for those new to outdoor learning or with some experience and relevant national governing body qualifications. You will lead groups in outdoor settings, building rapport and supporting personal and social development through bespoke outdoor learning programmes. We offer a comprehensive training package and ongoing support to develop your skills and knowledge. Experience
Previous group work experience in an outdoor or other setting, particularly working with children or young people, is desirable but not essential. Experience delivering outdoor learning or holding national governing body qualifications in paddling or climbing is advantageous. Individuals without qualifications but with transferrable skills are encouraged to apply.
About you
You should have excellent communication and customer service skills, be able to build rapport and empathise with others, and be confident leading groups in outdoor environments. A passion for the outdoors and an understanding of good practice and high standards relating to health and safety are important.
Qualifications
National governing body qualifications in outdoor learning activities such as paddling or climbing are desirable but not mandatory. Enthusiasm, a willingness to learn, and transferable skills are highly valued.
