About the Role
The Engineering Scheduler is responsible for ensuring the continuity of planned and corrective maintenance work is effectively distributed to the maintenance teams at Biffa BDR. Working closely with the Senior Team Leader, Engineering Planner, and Engineering Manager, you will support the seamless handover and continuity of works between engineering shifts. The role requires the ability to assist with on-site maintenance work as needed.

Key responsibilities include ensuring the plant is maintained within prescribed Health, Safety, and Environmental constraints and guidelines, reporting and communicating incidents according to incident reporting systems, attending safety and maintenance meetings, and rolling out site Tool Box Talks and safety briefs. You will ensure risk assessments and method statements are produced and up to date for each activity, maintain document libraries, and ensure all statutory and regulatory obligations are met through the annual maintenance calendar tracking inspection regimes.

Additional duties involve keeping up to date with legislative changes related to safety and environmental guidance, maintaining and auditing site stores for high standards of stock control, preparing parts and equipment for on-site works, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. You will also assist in project planning and delivery, develop comprehensive plant maintenance procedures, and ensure auditing and compliance documentation is completed.

Requirements

Experience
- Effective diagnosis of plant downtime events ensuring repairs are completed safely, swiftly, completely, and economically
- Management of site statutory requirements including LOLER, PUWER, COSHH
- Deputise for department peers as required
- Manage contract labour, including some out-of-hours and weekend work
- Develop and manage routine maintenance programs and review existing inspections for value addition
- Work with technical engineering support and maintenance planning to ensure first line diagnosis and maintenance activities are carried out safely and in accordance with procedures
- Ensure works are completed through standard maintenance procedures using the PPM process and methodology
- Support and be accountable for achieving maintenance KPI targets
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives within the department
- Advise on spares holdings, service suppliers, and develop lists of critical parts
- Assist in project planning and delivery
- Help develop comprehensive plant maintenance procedures
- Maintain current knowledge of relevant industrial best practices
- Assist with auditing and compliance documentation including engineering documentation audits
- Maintain, control, and audit site stores to high standards of stock control

Qualifications
Essential:
- Proven experience in engineering scheduling or maintenance planning roles

Preferable:
- Qualified/time served multi-skilled/electrical/mechanical engineer with minimum HNC
- Management experience of multi-disciplined teams
- NEBOSH/IOSH certification
- Knowledge of PLC, control systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Competence with CMMS systems
- Experience in process/waste industry
- Fire Marshal training
- First aider qualification
- Basic plant maintenance knowledge
