About the Role
Make every drop of your potential count by joining Anglian Water Services Limited as an Environmental Permitting Specialist. You will lead the negotiation of wastewater authorisations with the Environment Agency and Natural England to enable capital delivery (AMP) and reduce compliance risk and cost, securing favourable permits that meet both business and regulatory needs. Working closely with programme and delivery partners, you will provide expert environmental advice, track permit applications, and represent Anglian Water in industry forums.

Key responsibilities include negotiating discharge and waste permits to enable AMP/local schemes on time and at optimal standards and cost, reducing compliance risk through effective permit strategies in partnership with Water, Water Recycling and Bioresources teams. You will advise Alliance Programme Managers, IOS, and ADP on regulatory requirements for capital schemes and communicate Anglian Water standards.

Additional duties involve providing a professional helpdesk service, maintaining permit application and AMP scheme tracking systems, liaising with Environment Agency teams and other bodies, representing Anglian Water on studies to influence environmental policy and legislation, contributing to policies, standards and guidance, supporting new team members, and driving knowledge development and continuous improvement.

Experience
- Relevant permitting and compliance experience
- Familiarity with environmental permits and compliance frameworks
- Experience in compliance data review and assessment

- Strong advocacy and influencing skills with regulators
- Skilled negotiator able to secure favourable permit standards and identify programme savings
- Ability to interpret legislation and communicate changes effectively
- Problem-solving skills using technical expertise and environmental modelling interpretation
- Ability to work on own initiative across multiple schemes balancing delivery pressures with regulatory requirements
- Clear customer-service ethos with excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong IT competence

Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent in environmental science, water regulation, or related discipline (Essential)
- A clean full UK driving licence as the role requires business travel to sites across the region
