We have joined a new partnership in Northumbrian Water’s Living Water Enterprise, an innovative vehicle delivering large-scale construction programmes in AMP8 and beyond, supporting a £3.6bn workload. Northumbrian Water supplies water and sewerage services to just under 4.4 million people and has worked closely with MMB and JN Bentley since 2001. This new contract extends the relationship to at least 2030, with MMB undertaking treatment projects across the North East.

As an Environmental Specialist, you will be part of a UK-wide environment team supporting regional design and operations staff. Your responsibilities will include identifying environmental risks throughout the project lifecycle, supporting project teams to develop risk mitigation measures considering cost, time, compliance, safety, and social impacts, and coordinating specialist environmental inputs such as heritage, archaeology, ecology, geomorphology.

You will produce environmental deliverables at key project milestones including EIA screening assessments, material management plans, and environmental management plans, as well as applications for environmental permits and consents. You will lead liaison with environmental regulators, engage positively with clients on environmental and consenting matters, contribute to environmental improvement projects locally and regionally, and assist in training delivery.

Requirements

Experience
- Chartered with a relevant professional body or actively working towards chartership
- Understanding of environmental disciplines and project risks in ecology, archaeology, drainage, geotechnical, contaminated land, landscape, noise
- In-depth knowledge and experience in at least one of these subject areas is desirable
- Awareness of the planning process, preferably in the water sector, including surveys, permits, and consents for construction activities
- Experience advising and promoting project sustainability initiatives, including biodiversity net gain
- Ability to coordinate environmental aspects through strong planning, organisation, and communication skills
- Valid driving licence and willingness to travel to sites

Qualifications
Chartered status or active progression towards chartership with a relevant professional body is required. Relevant environmental or engineering qualifications are expected.
