About the Role

Working primarily in the UK water market, you will be involved in major water and wastewater schemes throughout all project phases from feasibility through to construction. With an annual turnover surpassing £500 million, MMB is a leader in the industry, providing feasibility, design, construction, and commissioning services that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of water and wastewater treatment systems.
As an Environmental Specialist, you will be part of a UK-wide environment team supporting regional design and operations staff to deliver environmental improvements at local and regional levels. Your role will involve identifying environmental risks throughout the project lifecycle, supporting project teams to develop risk mitigation measures considering cost, time, compliance, safety, and social impacts, and coordinating specialist environmental inputs such as heritage, archaeology, ecology, and geomorphology.
You will produce environmental deliverables including EIA screening assessments and environmental management plans, lead liaison with environmental regulators, and engage positively with clients on environmental and consenting matters to build strong relationships and enhance the company’s reputation. You will coordinate environmental aspects through effective planning, organisation, and communication to ensure successful project outcomes, solving problems methodically and driving project delivery with a proactive and pragmatic mindset.
This role offers the opportunity to work on projects that make a real difference to the environment and communities, including upgrades to wastewater treatment works and the delivery of the largest spill reduction programme in the UK, protecting over 500km of rivers and bathing waters.
Experience
- Proven ability to identify and manage environmental risks throughout project lifecycles.
- Experience producing environmental deliverables such as EIA screening assessments and environmental management plans.
- Experience liaising with environmental regulators and managing environmental consents and permits.
- Knowledge of environmental disciplines including ecology, archaeology, drainage, geotechnics, contaminated land, landscape, and noise.
- Experience in the water sector and understanding of planning processes, surveys, permits, and consents is desirable.
- Experience in producing applications for environmental permits such as flood risk activity permits, Tree Protection Order consents, and groundwater permits is advantageous.
- Experience advising and promoting sustainability initiatives, including biodiversity net gain, is desirable.

Qualifications
- Chartered status with a relevant professional body or actively working towards chartership is desirable.
