About the Role
At WSP, you will have the opportunity to work on landmark projects that make a real difference. We are seeking a Consultant with experience in delivering flood risk assessment projects to join our national Sustainable Water Management team. You will work collaboratively on technically complex projects for a diverse range of clients, focusing primarily on Flood Risk Assessment for major infrastructure projects in the UK and overseas. Your role will also involve flood risk modelling, LLFA technical services, flood management solutions, Water EIA, WFD assessment, permitting applications, geomorphology, and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG). You will contribute technical expertise, mentor junior team members, and take leadership on project management activities including financial and programme management. Responsibilities include carrying out flood risk assessments, preparing deliverables, supporting sustainable drainage design, planning application reviews, Local Flood Risk Management Strategies, permitting applications, environmental assessments, and conducting site surveys to support Section 19 investigations. You will communicate effectively within the team and wider business, supporting junior staff development and working collaboratively across disciplines.

Your Team
Our Sustainable Water Management business is growing rapidly, with a team of 350 water consultancy and engineering professionals nationally. The Leeds team consists of five water environment and flood risk specialists working closely with regional teams across the North East and North West and a national team of approximately 150. We deliver major infrastructure projects such as the Bristol Heat Network and Cullompton Town Centre Relief Road, working with clients including National Grid, Network Rail, and National Highways. We also support Local Authorities and Lead Local Flood Authorities with transport infrastructure schemes, flood investigations, flood risk management strategies, and planning review support. Project allocation is managed fairly and transparently, considering personal interests and development aspirations.

Requirements

Experience
- Proven experience in preparing Flood Risk Assessments and supporting skills such as flood risk modelling, flood risk strategy development, drainage design, or Water Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), preferably in consultancy.
- Experience providing technical inputs for planning and permitting of major infrastructure projects, including FRA and Water EIA for planning applications, DCO examinations, planning inquiries, and environmental permit applications.
- Knowledge of the UK regulatory context for flood risk planning.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Some experience supporting project management activities.

Qualifications
- Degree in a relevant environmental, geographical, science, or engineering discipline.
- Actively working towards chartered status with C.WEM, CEnv, CSci, or CEng.
