About the Role
At WSP, you can contribute to landmark projects and connect with the brightest minds in your field to do the best work of your life. We are seeking several Environmental Project Managers to join our Environmental Project Management Team. Reporting to a Senior Environmental Project Manager, you will play a key role in delivering a wide range of environmentally focused projects across the UK, spanning public- and private-sector clients.
Our work covers some of the UK's most nationally significant infrastructure programmes such as National Grid's Great Grid Upgrade, Heathrow Expansion, East-West Rail, and Sizewell C, alongside a broad mix of built-environment and development schemes. Clients operate across sectors including highways, rail, aviation, defence, nuclear, residential and property, energy generation and renewables, and transmission and distribution.
You will support the full project lifecycle from early business case development and securing consents and permits (including DCOs), through to design and construction. This role offers the opportunity to lead smaller projects while working alongside Senior Project Managers on major programmes, providing exposure, development, and room to grow. There will also be opportunities to line manage and mentor junior colleagues and contribute to the ongoing development of the Environmental Project Management Team's strategy.
Key responsibilities include supporting project proposals by determining requirements, scope, resources, programme, and cost estimates; developing and maintaining project management documentation such as plans, forecasts, risk registers, schedules, stakeholder registers, and organisation charts; monitoring and controlling project schedules, budgets, forecasts, and progress; ensuring health and safety compliance for site visits; undertaking contract management and administration; actively managing project change and risks; and working closely with technical teams to adhere to contractual and scope agreements.
You will lead, mentor, and develop multi-disciplinary environmental project teams and promote accountability for environmental betterment, future-ready, and net zero strategies. You will represent Environment and Consents when interfacing with other WSP teams, clients, and stakeholders, fostering and growing excellent relationships.
Our Environmental Project Management team is strong, dedicated, and growing, proud of a friendly, supportive, and collaborative culture that empowers team members to develop and thrive. As a recognised centre of excellence within Environment & Consents, we provide leadership and tailored project management support across a wide variety of programmes and project lifecycle stages.
Experience
Proven experience as an Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager within a project or PMO setting, preferably in environment or sustainability sectors. Experience delivering projects within budget and managing effective change control. Working knowledge of programme management, including work breakdown structure, dependencies, and critical path. Experience with MS Project, Primavera P6, or similar tools. Experience working with Professional Services Contracts, including NEC3/4, is advantageous.
About you
A genuine interest in the environment and land-based sustainable development, with a positive, can-do attitude and enthusiasm to grow your career. Confident communicator, both written and verbal, able to convey key messages clearly and keep project teams and stakeholders informed and aligned. Strong commercial and contractual awareness with financial acumen and analytical thinking. Ability to lead, mentor, and develop multi-disciplinary teams while promoting environmental betterment and net zero strategies.
Qualifications
Membership of an appropriate professional institution (e.g. PMI, APM, MIEnvSc, MIEMA, MRICS) and either chartered status or working towards chartership or other relevant accreditations.
