About the Role
We are seeking a reliable and safety-conscious HGV Class 2 Driver & Waste Operative to join our busy team at the steel works. This dual-purpose role requires a skilled driver who is also willing to be hands-on with waste management operations. You will be responsible for the efficient collection and transport of industrial waste materials across the site and to external disposal points, alongside general site operational tasks including mobile plant operations and housekeeping.

Key responsibilities include safely operating various HGV Class 2 vehicles, loading shovel and forklift truck within a busy steel production environment; managing the safe collection of industrial and commercial wastes from multiple production departments; assisting with loading/unloading skips, securing loads, manual site clearance and housekeeping; ensuring compliance with all regulatory and company procedures such as tachograph compliance, daily vehicle checks, wheel torquing and mobile plant inspections; strictly adhering to health and safety protocols including wearing full PPE and reporting incidents; performing basic vehicle maintenance checks to keep vehicles clean and roadworthy; and supporting the Biffa site supervisor to deliver a quality service to the customer.

Working in a steel works environment involves exposure to heat, noise, and dust. Full site-specific training and high-specification PPE are provided to ensure your safety and success in this role.

Experience
Minimum 1–2 years of Class 2 driving experience, preferably in an industrial or construction setting. Previous experience operating skip motors and working within steel or heavy manufacturing industries is desirable.

Physically fit to perform manual handling tasks and work outdoors in all weather conditions. A can-do, professional attitude with a willingness to support the team and maintain high standards of housekeeping and operational efficiency.

Qualifications
Valid UK HGV Class 2 (Category C) licence.
Up-to-date Driver CPC qualification and Digital Tachograph card.
Forklift or telehandler licence is desirable but not essential.
