About the Role
Reporting to the Senior Business Manager, the Operations Manager has line management responsibility for supervisors and their teams and is responsible for the safe, reliable and effective delivery of the depot’s recycling and waste collections and street cleansing service. You will ensure high levels of customer service are maintained at all times while delivering on the contract’s KPIs. You will ensure all activities comply with contract requirements, Biffa Policies and Procedures, industry legislation, and health and safety rules.
Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring all Health and Safety, Biffa policies, procedures and legal obligations are understood and followed by all staff.
- Periodically reviewing and amending safety procedures as required.
- Maintaining up-to-date training records.
- Developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with clients and internal/external customers.
- Attending client meetings and delivering required reports on time.
- Working with the Senior Business Manager to achieve financial and budget targets including overtime, staff numbers and revenue.
- Supporting staff training and development and reviewing training needs.
- Ensuring all staff have up-to-date job descriptions and thorough inductions.
- Supervising operational performance against contract standards.
- Implementing effective processes to monitor staff performance and addressing issues promptly in line with Biffa Policies.
- Continuously reviewing waste collection and street cleansing operations to improve efficiency and financial performance.
- Ensuring safe operation and maintenance of all work equipment.
- Confirming all staff are appropriately trained before using equipment, plant or vehicles.
- Maintaining records and systems for compliant contract operations including KPI reporting and data requests.
- Assisting the company in achieving its business objectives and complying with procedures.

Experience
- Transport Manager CPC Qualification.
- People and health and safety management experience in a unionised environment including disciplinaries, grievances, and recruitment.
- Proven track record of working to clearly defined service delivery KPIs.
- Experience of vehicle management including CPC, tachographs, and Road Transport Directive.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver continuous improvement within an operational/service environment.
- Experience producing and analysing reports using Microsoft Office Suite.
- General knowledge of environmental responsibilities and health and safety legislation.
- Ability to manage conflict and negotiate suitable outcomes.
- Analytical skills to measure, monitor data and take corrective action.

Qualifications
