The Places Design Practice is seeking a career-driven Principal Civil Engineer with proven expertise in urban development and civil engineering for building projects. Key areas of expertise include surface and foul drainage, utilities, ground/earthworks, and highways interfaces. Experience in Industrial Manufacturing, Technology, or Defence projects is advantageous.

In this role, you will support Urban Development services by collaborating across GBA teams, GEC, and global Places experts. You will lead engineering activities aligned with sustainable development and Arcadis Health & Safety standards, ensuring cohesive, high-quality design solutions through multidisciplinary teamwork. Responsibilities include defining and implementing project collaboration strategies with global design teams, managing design deliverables such as drawings, BIM models, reports, and specifications, and reviewing team outputs to maintain accuracy.

You will oversee engineering management in line with the Arcadis Integrated Management System, own Designer Hazard Logs, communicate residual risks to the Principal Designer, coordinate project planning, resource allocation, and team management, and maintain Design Decision Logs and Project Assumptions registers. Additionally, you will provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, technicians, and apprentices, fostering professional development and excellence.

Experience
Degree qualified with Chartered or Incorporated status; near-chartered candidates will also be considered. Proven track record in civil engineering and urban development design and delivery, including drainage, highways, and utilities. Proficient in MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage, AutoCAD Civil3D, and BIM integration. Strong knowledge of design standards such as SuDS, SfA, DMRB, and Building Regulations. Experienced in project management including planning, programming, commercial aspects, and client relations. Skilled at leading teams and supporting professional development. Applies evidence-based engineering solutions with sound theoretical knowledge and is competent in manual calculation methods alongside software tools.
